Giorgio Hupfers Werk umfasst ein breites Spektrum künstlerischer Ausdrucksformen. Seiner Haltung gegenüber Kunst und Gesellschaft entsprechend arbeitet der Künstler auf dem Gebiet der Malerei und der Zeichnung, der Performance und der Aktionskunst, auf den Feldern von Musik und Dichtung. Hupfer beschäftigt sich mit verschiedensten Formen des Erzählens, mit Film und Fotografie. All diese »Tätigkeitsfelder«, wie Hupfer sie nennt, sind Instrumente seines künstlerischen Handelns und untrennbar miteinander verwoben. Die in den vergangenen 25 Jahren entstandenen Einzelwerke und Werkgruppen sind immer thematisch gebunden und verweisen häufig auf Räume und Orte, die für Hupfer sowohl Inspirationsquelle als auch Manifestationsebene waren und sind. Vom Künstler ausgewählte Dokumente eigenen Tuns, angeordnet in inhaltlich und formal aufeinander bezogenen Bild- und Textfolgen, bieten in der vorliegenden Publikation erstmals Einblick in ein ebenso vielschichtiges wie faszinierendes Werk.


Giorgio Hupfer’s work encompasses a broad spectrum of artistic expression. Corresponding to his outlook on art and society, the artist works in the genre of painting and drawing, of performance and action art, the fields of music and poetry. Hupfer is engaged in the most varied forms of narration, with film and photography. All these “activity fields”, as Hupfer calls them, are instruments of his artistic pursuit and are inseparably linked, one with the other. The single works and work groups that have come about over the past 25 years are always linked thematically and frequently point to places and sites that for Hupfer have been and are a source of inspiration as well as a manifestation level. Documents of his activity chosen by the artist, picture and text sequences arranged in thematic and formal coordination, offer for the first time in this publication an insight into this both manysided and fascinating work.
